I was contacted by a Coffee & Contacts networking friend. Her twin niece and nephew were graduating from Valparaiso University in Chicago. She wanted an interesting graduation gift. She thought an illustration of the Student Union would be great. She liked the “horizontal aspect of the building…and it was very modern.”
I was able to locate a photograph of the Harre Student Union from Wikipedia and began on my creative journey of illustration. “Wow!” is the only thing I can think of when I see the building. Its all curves! What a challenge, a nice departure from what I usually do. I looked on the campus map and as you can see, the building has many rounded parts. The angle of the photograph really highlights those curves.
My client was delighted with the end result. Apparently right after graduation, one of the twins headed out to California to start a job, the other is still searching.
