Iowa is an amazing state, in Americas Heartland, established in 1846. From a large Louisiana Purchase. It supplies a huge manufacturing portion of the food for the United States too, including ConAgra Foods, Wells Blue Bunny, Barilla, Heinz, Wonder Bread/Hostess Snack Cakes, Tone’s Spices, General Mills, and Quaker Oats.

Alison’s husband grew up in Iowa. She wanted to have an awesome Christmas gift for him. The only had a snapshot with a disposable camera, from her Sister In-Law.

Christmas Tree

540 And The Impact

The 540 – Raleigh Outer Loop is in the process of being built. It was designed to alleviate the local traffic around Raleigh and connecting the outer areas to other outer areas.

With these construction projects, they come with a HUGE price tag, mainly the acquisition of property and the physical construction costs. The upper portion of 540 has been done and open for nearly 2 years. As construction is completed, it is opened for traffic. As time goes on, the costs have escalated and there was a suggestion of opening up as a toll road. The citizens have balked but the decision has been made, the toll road is now open, but tolled only on the lower portion.

When the entire route is complete, this home will be within a mile of an exit ramp, creating a huge reselling point. This homeowner will have a price tag goldmine of a home.

Regardless of where this house is located, this will be a wonderful home for a family to have their life!

Wake Forest & New Construction

Yikes, headed to Wake Forest before the Holiday rush to snap some pictures of a new construction home in the Heritage subdivision. Before I head out, I always look on Google Maps for directions but thought, “oh, I know exactly where Heritage is and how to get there”. Was I WRONG!

Years ago, I was in outside sale for a company that sold blinds. I went out and met clients, measured and quoted prices. I knew the Triangle inside and out. Back roads were my passion, I could get from here to there without going on a major road. Knew where all the subdivisions were and the back entrances too. Needless to say that was from 1993-1996. Did the stay-at-home Mom thing and now that I am out and about more, what a shock!

I got totally lost in Heritage, the address was not on Google Maps nor could any site agent in Heritage tell me where this new construction was. I had to hang my head low and call the buying agent that contracted me. Lesson learned for me! Find where the street is BEFORE you leave home!

Churchill Downs – Kentucky Derby

Churchill Downs in located in Louisville Kentucky. The original property was owned by Colonel Meriwether Lewis Clark Jr. and leased in 1874. There were former 2 closed race courses in Louisville. This location was ideal, beside the railroad, for easy horse transport.

The track was nearly 2 miles, but shortening the track to 1.25 miles or 2km and adding the signature spires, brought the location to the forefront of racing standards. The public adored the signature event that was the first Saturday in May. The world focuses it’s attention on women’s fashion (especially the hats) and the championship race horses. This event is marked with history, pomp and circumstance.

The track is used nearly year-round, including the running of the Kentucky Oaks, concerts, food events, training sessions, educational classes and hundreds of other horse races.

Chicago Bears – Soldier Field

A building tells a story.

Since construction for renovations began in 2002, Chicago’s Soldier Field has been a target of architectural controversy. Described by many as a resembling a UFO that landed on the old Soldier Field, the futuristic look has slowly gained at least partial acceptance from Chicagoans.

Although it did not become the permanent home to the Bears until 1971 (nearly 47 years after it opened), it is firmly seen as the home of the Bears. Soldier Field has hosted boxing title bouts, college football, soccer, and concerts, along with many more events over the years.

Today, fans can enjoy great seats throughout the stadium with views of the city, lake, and museum campus.

Opinions vary from person to person. The architecture of the stadium is varied but it’s eclectic look is like Chicago!

MacGregor Country Club

I received an email from a friend that saw an ad on Craig’s List. The ad was looking for an artist for a Christmas card. I unknowing responded. Little did I know, it was for MacGregor Downs Country Club!

I went for the initial contact interview at the club. They were so excited, after seeing my work on the website, they were interested in a card of the stone fireplace, the club crest and the leather chairs in front. The fireplace mantle would be also decorated with the usual holiday splendor. White lights and red poinsettias, packages dressed in bows.

The cards have been sent out to all the 750 members, listed on the website and a small article in their newsletter, the Bag Piper.

So excited to see what they want illustrated next year, as they want a long term relationship, year after year.
